One of our most popular formats on hyble is the Trifold menu. This design is a great way to showcase many products, such as combining a food and drinks menu, in a neat, compact format.
What is a Trifold Menu?
A trifold menu is a single piece of paper, with a design printed on both sides. To achieve the trifold effect, the paper is folded 3 times to create 6 sections, 3 on each side. Each section is typically the same width and dimensions. When folded together, the menu compacts down to appear as a single double-sided panel.
To make them suitable for folding, trifold menus are typically printed on a thinner, laminated paper stock material. They are most suitable for family restaurants, takeaway outlets, or any venue that offers a large selection of food or drinks.
Understanding how a Trifold Menu is Printed
As the name might suggest, a trifold menu had 3 folds; the left and right panels fold inwards to create a stacked fold effect.
When laying the menu flat, bring the right section over to cover the middle one. Then, you fold the left section over the middle as well. That's your trifold menu!
What you can expect when designing trifold menus with hyble:
- Clear Panel Names: Labels above each section of your page make it crystal clear which part of your design corresponds to each panel.
- Visible Fold Lines: You'll now see fold lines marked on the page, showing you exactly where your design will fold when printed.
- Easy Alignment: Items can be snapped to the horizontal and vertical alignment of each panel individually.
- Automatic Legal Text Adjustment: Legal text will automatically adjust to fit within a single panel width, making sure it looks neat and tidy on your page.
- Streamlined Menu Sections: New menu sections will now automatically span just one panel width, rather than spreading across multiple panels, keeping your layout clean and organised.
- 3D Render Tool: You'll be able to preview your trifold designs in a 3D render tool, giving you a real feel for how they'll look in the physical world.
Designing a Trifold with hyble
1: Each panel is labelled with a name, to describe where it will be when the menu is folded.
2: Fold lines show you the cut-off for each panel. and where it will be folded when printed.
Here's how it links up: The right section, when folded, becomes the front cover. The left section, when folded, is the inside flap. And what's left in the middle is the back cover. So, when you look at it, you'll see the front cover first, then you open it up to see the inside flap, and finally, you'll find the back cover.
Please note: You can place images, menu sections, and badges across fold-lines, but these lines show where the menus will be creased for folding when printed. Placing content on these lines may mean that it is unreadable on the final print.
Each panel of a trifold has its own horizontal and vertical centre alignment point, allowing you to align content with each panel individually and neatly.
When adding Legal Text to a trifold menu, it will default to the centre panel of each side (either the Back Cover or Inside Middle).
Trifold 3D Preview
The popular 3D Preview feature is also available for trifold menus, allowing you to view a representation of your design as a 3D render.
In the 3D preview, the trifold is laid flat. A visual guide to how each panel is displayed can be seen below.
